Today, 15 December, the Geopolitics and Security Studies Center hosted an event titled “Euroleague Geopolitics”, featuring EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejūnas. The discussion was moderated by GSSC Director Linas Kojala.
The conversation explored key aspects of EuroLeague operations and governance: its relationship with the NBA and FIBA, the importance of club-owned arenas for financial sustainability, successful examples such as Žalgiris, brand building, and the importance of attracting long-term investment.
It also addressed the geopolitical, financial, and reputational challenges EuroLeague faces today: how war and political tension influence decisions on league expansion, clubs’ participation in the competition, the format of tournaments, and the league’s long-term strategy.
