Today, GSSC Director Linas Kojala joined the online policy dialogue “Russia’s Escalation: What Comes Next?”, organised by the European Policy Centre (EPC).

Together with Oana Lungescu, Senior Adviser on NATO and Transatlantic Security and Defence at EPC and former NATO Spokesperson, Martin Sklenár, Distinguished Fellow at GLOBSEC and former Minister of Defence of Slovakia, and Juraj Majcin, Policy Analyst and Lead of EPC’s European Defence and Security Project, the discussion focused on Russia’s increasingly escalatory behaviour and its implications for European security.

The speakers discussed the current threat Russia poses to European security, the risk of escalation and miscalculation, NATO’s red lines, and Europe’s options for strengthening deterrence and responding to Russian hybrid operations. Kojala contributed a Lithuanian perspective, addressing potential scenarios of Russian miscalculation on NATO’s eastern flank and how Europe should respond if hybrid attacks result in significant civilian casualties.
