Discussion “How to Defend the European Union’s Eastern Flank? NATO, Ukraine and the Necessary Decisions”

To mark Europe Day, the Geopolitics and Security Studies Center hosted a discussion titled “How to Defend the European Union’s Eastern Flank? NATO, Ukraine and the Necessary Decisions.”

The discussion featured Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner responsible for Defence and Space; Tomas Godliauskas, Vice Minister of National Defence; Deividas Matulionis, Chief Adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania on national security; and Laurynas Kasčiūnas, Member of the Seimas, Chairman of the Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats and former Minister of National Defence. The discussion was moderated by GSSC Chief Adviser on Foreign Policy Vytautas Leškevičius.

The discussion focused primarily on the roles of NATO and the EU in strengthening the continent’s defence, the development of Europe’s defence industry, and the integration of lessons from the war in Ukraine into the development of Western defence capabilities.
